The Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Judith Suminwa, launched a solemn message on her X account this Friday, December 12, following the Rwandan aggression that recently led to the capture of the city of Uvira in the eastern part of the country.
In her emotionally charged statement, Ms. Suminwa expressed her solidarity with the populations affected by the conflict, particularly families displaced and children separated from their homes. "In these dark hours when our nation is attacked by the intensification of combat led by Rwanda, in violation of the Washington agreements, my heart turns toward our wounded populations of the East," she affirmed.
The Prime Minister also launched an urgent call for the protection of civilians and reminded the government's commitment to ensuring their security. "The Government is resolved to provide them assistance, to guarantee their security and to bring true and lasting peace throughout the entire national territory," she emphasized.
Suminwa paid tribute to the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) and the Wazalendo patriots, saluting their courage and determination in the face of aggression. She described these soldiers as "the shield of our sovereignty" defending the land, dignity and future of the country.
In a call for national unity, the Prime Minister concluded: "Today more than ever, we must remain united, supportive and confident. For despite the pain, despite the trials, peace will return, and our people will rise again."
The situation in the eastern DRC remains tense, and the international community is closely following the evolution of the conflict, marked by repeated confrontations between Congolese forces and Rwandan militias. The capture of Uvira heightens concern about the security of civilian populations and the stability of the region.
