A patient left the Ebola treatment center in Rwampara on Wednesday, marking hope in the fight against the epidemic in Ituri province.

On Wednesday, a woman left the Ebola treatment center in Rwampara, located in Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This marks the first recovery since the onset of the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak.
The recovery was confirmed by sources close to the center, who stated: "We have 5 patients who are completely cured, they no longer have the virus in their bodies." This news is particularly significant as it comes after a challenging period for the region, which has been affected by a persistent outbreak.
The Rwampara treatment center is supported by the NGO ALIMA, which plays a crucial role in managing and treating Ebola cases. According to a statement from ALIMA, all patients currently under observation at the center are suspected cases. Additionally, 84 contacts have been identified and are also under close monitoring.
This recovery comes as several neighboring countries, including Uganda and South Sudan, are strengthening their preventive measures in response to the Ebola threat. Health authorities in these countries remain vigilant and are closely monitoring the borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a context where the outbreak has caused significant human losses and has put local health systems under strain, this first recovery provides a positive outlook on the efforts being made to contain the virus. The medical coordinator of ALIMA in Rwampara/Bunia urban area Ituri North-East DRC since April 2020 has emphasized: "It remains essential to continue efforts to ensure that every case is treated quickly and effectively."
This situation also highlights the importance of awareness campaigns and resources allocated to the fight against Ebola. The international community must continue to support local initiatives to prevent any resurgence of the outbreak.
