In Congo-Brazzaville, opposition figure Mathias Dzon, 73, filed an appeal on Thursday, March 25, 2021 to annul the presidential election held on March 21. Having obtained less than 2% of votes according to provisional results still to be confirmed by the Constitutional Court, he believes the vote was marred by numerous irregularities and should be cancelled also following the death of a candidate during the process.

My request to annul the March 21, 2021 election is essentially based on three reasons. The first reason is the existence of numerous irregularities that hampered the vote, including the absence of genuine electoral lists from the 2021 revision, the existence of clandestine polling stations in the headquarters of the PCT [Congolese Labour Party] and at the homes of MPs and PCT officials; the prohibition of my representatives in polling stations; the transhumance of voters and ballot boxes; the distribution of money on a large scale; the voting of minors and foreigners, etc. The second reason relates to the hasty, or rather pre-established, proclamation of results. The third reason concerns the non-application of Article 70 of the Constitution due to the permanent incapacity of one of the seven candidates in the presidential election.
