President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered his annual state of the nation address before Parliament. A speech that also marks his three years leading the country. The president defended his measures to fight Covid-19 and praised the private sector as a key player in emerging from the crisis.

From his podium, Cyril Ramaphosa measures the gulf that separates him from the past year. In the country, Covid-19 has killed more than 47,000 people and South Africa now records an unemployment rate of 30%. But the worst has been avoided and better days are coming, according to Cyril Ramaphosa.
"Thanks to the relief measures we have implemented and the gradual reopening of the economy, we are expecting strong job growth by the end of the year."
Salvation should come from the private sector, extensively praised during the presidential address. "The private sector remains the first and largest job creator. This is why we have launched major reforms so that the private sector can continue to invest in our country."
At the end of the speech, a few Parliamentarians are left wanting. "There was nothing concrete tonight to rebuild our economy," countered the Democratic Alliance, the largest opposition party. Only one piece of good news according to its representative: the extension for three months of a monthly allowance of 20 euros intended for the most deprived.
