Around fifteen parties, several of which are significant players in the Chadian political landscape, have just committed, after weeks of secret negotiations, to a framework agreement aimed at presenting a single candidate for the presidential election on April 11 next and a common programme, which are to be signed at a solemn ceremony next week. But nothing is guaranteed.

Of the roughly twenty parties contacted by the initiators of this opposition coalition named "Alliance Victoire", some such as the CPTD of Laoukein Kourayo Médard or the UPD of Max Kemkoye have declined the invitation.
Others, such as Succès's Transformers, were not approached: "he [Succès Masra, founder] is engaged in his fight for changing the age threshold ", justifies one of the initiators.
In the end, it is 14 parties ranging from Saleh Kebzabo's UNDR to Salibou Ngarba's AND via Mahamat Abba Djabou's FPLS, which say they are ready to support a single candidate for the presidential election on April 11 next.
They concluded their negotiations three days ago on the texts that will govern their alliance: a common programme, a code of conduct and the criteria for designating the opposition's single candidate.
These parties have an appointment next Tuesday for the official launch of "Alliance Victoire". "We hope to bring together other opposition parties by then ", explains one of the initiators.
The hardest part remains: agreeing on the name of the single candidate. A man who "meets the conditions set by law, is capable of bringing together all opposition and civil society, of defending the common programme, and who also has sufficient social and economic support ", describes Mahamat Ahmad Alhabo of the PLD.
" This is the only way to defeat Idriss Deby and we are ready to play the game ", he assures. Another opponent acknowledges that this will be their " true test of political maturity ".
