On January 16, 2001, Congolese president Laurent-Désiré Kabila, the man who toppled Marshal Mobutu, is killed in his office in Kinshasa by one of his bodyguards. The assassin is shot dead as he runs out of the office.
85 people are convicted, some to death, others to heavy prison sentences. Twenty years after the facts, on Friday, January 8, 2021, the last 23 detainees convicted in this case are finally released. But were they really guilty?
