December 27 marked the 45th Friday of protests. Tens of thousands of Algerians marched again in the streets of Algiers, Constantine, Oran and about a dozen other cities. Although significant, this mobilization appeared lower than that of previous weeks, according to AFP journalists on the ground. 'Tebboune get out' could be heard…

"Tebboune get out" could be heard Friday in the streets of Algiers. For the protesters, the December 12 election changed nothing. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria's new president and former loyalist of Abdelaziz Bouteflika, must leave power because in their eyes he represents only the continuation of a corrupt and outdated political system.
From Algiers to Constantine passing through Tizi Ouzou, protesters called for the release of political prisoners and detainees. They drew their inspiration from history Friday, paying tribute to Ramdane Abane. This independence activist and leader of the FLN (National Liberation Front) was assassinated 62 years ago, to the day.
Nevertheless Friday's demonstrations mobilized fewer people than those of previous weeks, notably just before the presidential election, according to AFP. They took place calmly and no arrests were reported.
Two days earlier, thousands of Algerians had also gathered in the streets of the capital to pay tribute to General Gaïd Salah, the country's strongman since President Bouteflika's resignation, whose departure Hirak activists had tirelessly demanded.
