In Uvira, the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (Wazalendo) reach a major milestone with the official creation, this Saturday, February 28, of a special unit bringing together 30 movements. The stated objective is to better coordinate their actions and strengthen their close collaboration with the FARDC to secure the zone.

A special unit of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), commonly called Wazalendo, was officially established this Saturday, February 28 in Uvira, in South Kivu Province. The announcement was made during a press briefing organized in Kimanga by the leaders of this structure. The creation of this special unit follows consultations bringing together 30 movements sharing the same vision of contributing to the defense of the homeland.
The initiators specify that this initiative aims to strengthen the coordination and effectiveness of actions carried out in the field. According to Alexis Byadunia Meschack, spokesperson for the special unit, self-proclaimed General Delphin Kalembe Ngoma Nzito was elected president of the structure, because of his commitment and determination in defending the territory.
The spokesperson indicated that the special unit of the VDP intends to work in close collaboration with the special unit of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) deployed in the zone. The stated objective is to pool efforts to ensure the security and protection of local populations. The unit leaders also expressed their gratitude to the population of Uvira for their support of the VDP. They welcomed the involvement of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, notably for granting a bonus of encouragement to Wazalendo members, described as a "historic act" in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The special unit warned anyone who would solicit money or beg in the name of the VDP in the city of Uvira and its surroundings. The spokesperson emphasized that, if needed, a duly signed mission order from the unit leader would be issued to authorized persons. To date, he specified, the members are supervised and no particular need is expressed.A commitment reaffirmed
