The African Football Confederation announced on Thursday a 40% increase in the prize for the winner of the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire for 2023. The winner of the 34th edition of this major sporting event on the African continent will receive "7,000,000 USD".
The runner-up will receive 4,000,000 USD. The semi-finalists will leave with 2,500,000 USD each, while the four quarter-finalists will earn 1,300,000 USD each.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe stated: "Over the past two years, the CAF has made notable progress in increasing prize money for the CAN and all its other major competitions. The prize for the CAN winner is now 7,000,000 USD, representing a 40% increase compared to the previous edition. I am convinced that this amount will contribute to the development of football and benefit all stakeholders, while supporting our member associations."
Furthermore, everything is in place for the nations already qualified to restore a positive image and achieve objectives such as winning the cup, currently held by Senegal.
It should be noted that the competition will begin on Saturday, January 13, 2024, with Côte d'Ivoire opening proceedings against Guinea-Bissau at 21:00 at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium in D'Anyama.
