"They are hardly paid salaries every month," complain the motorcycle taxi drivers. On the other hand, they are accused by motorcycle owners of failing to pay the agreed daily amount. These are the disputes that the Cooperative of Motorcycle Taxi Drivers of Burundi (Cotamobu) wants to resolve by implementing a new project...

Officially launched this Friday at a press conference, ''Safe Transport'' is software that will facilitate relations between motorcycle drivers and their bosses through Cotamobu, explains Félicien Nkurunziza, representative of the cooperative's board of administration.
For him, this technology will help them address the problems that his motorcycle-riding colleagues still face, which are linked to salaries that are often half-paid or not paid at the end of each month. "We receive at least five complaints of this kind per week," says Félicien Nkurunziza.
According to him, his motorcycle-riding colleagues are often accused by their bosses of not bringing in the amount equivalent to between 12,000 and 15,000 francs (at least 7 dollars) per day depending on the condition of the motorcycle; such is the convention. These are the accusations from motorcycle owners. Mr. Nkurunziza indicates that he has discussed this with them several times.
Mr. Nkurunziza asserts that ''Safe Transport'' is a solution for all these disputes because employers and motorcycle drivers will both sign the contract with their cooperative. And that at the end of each month each one will collect their amount at the cooperative's office.
The motorcycle will be in the hands of the cooperative, and all expenses will be covered by it except in the case of purchasing a part at a price exceeding 80,000 Burundian francs.
The boss who was unable to receive 150,000 Burundian francs brought by the motorcycle driver will this time be given 200,000. And his motorcycle driver will have a monthly salary of 150,000 BIF. Reports the president of Cotamobu.
Cotamobu was born on March 25, 2019 with 23 members gathered at the Metalusa parking lot and currently has 330 members gathered in 7 parking lots in the Municipality of Bujumbura, Ntahangwa commune.
