Burundi: women of CNL party want to pursue agro-business
The women leaders of the National Congress for Liberty (CNL) party, Burundi's leading opposition political party, are calling on their activists to develop entrepreneurial spirit, especially at a time when unemployment is widespread. Celebrating International Women's Day, the CNL party women (Inyangamugayo) held a meeting at national headquarters this Sunday, April 10. Pleasant ceremonies, music and dances were savored. The emotion was truly palpable. Speeches delivered by women in party leadership called on these activists to work hard, to develop themselves, develop their party and the country in general.
"More than 80% of women support their families through agro-pastoral activities," notes Immaculée Ntacobakimvuna, national secretary for women's promotion within the party. For economic empowerment and the preservation of women's rights to occur, the agro-pastoral sector must be developed, assures Ntacobakimvuna.
From there, she calls on women to join associations to develop their agro-pastoral knowledge. Moreover, she asks Agathon Rwasa, the party president, who was himself present at the event, to organize agro-business training for women activists of his party.

Rwasa, flattered in the right direction
In his speech to the women present, the CNL president heeded the request of his secretary for women's promotion and asked the party's central bodies to carefully study the organization of these agro-business training sessions, for the empowerment of women especially in rural areas. "We have heard your request and we are asking the party's central bodies to study its feasibility," he said. Agathon Rwasa praised the bravery and courage of the woman farmer.
It is moreover the same tune with the president of the republic, Evariste Ndayishimiye who, moreover, designated 2022 as "the year of agriculture". This year, he wanted Burundians to pay particular attention to agriculture and agro-business. This is well in line with Ndayishimiye's slogan: "Umunwa wose uronke ico ufungura, umufuko wose uronke amafaranga ubika". Which can be translated as "Let every mouth have food to eat and let every pocket have money to keep".
