Born in 1965 in Pointe-Noire (south), the economic capital, a city known for its independence, Anatole Collinet Makosso began his political career in 1990. He served in turn as adviser and chief of staff to the Prefect of Kouilou, the region that is home to Pointe-Noire.
This teacher by training subsequently became adviser to President Sassou Nguesso from 1998 onwards, then chief of staff to Antoinette Sassou Nguesso, the First Lady.
He entered government as Minister of Youth and Civic Instruction in 2011. Five years later, he held the position of Minister of Primary and Secondary Education in charge of literacy.
Anatole Collinet Makosso, with graying hair, sporting suits without ties on certain occasions, is also a deputy for a Pointe-Noire constituency for the past 4 years.
Deputy campaign director for candidate Sassou Nguesso during the last presidential election, Anatole Collinet Makosso has never been cited in financial scandals.
He now has the heavy task of forming a new government that must tackle, among other things, corruption and resolve numerous social problems such as the payment of pension arrears and student grants.
